Breathe easier!

With HSE’s present concentration on the dangers to construction workers in particular posed by exposure to Silica dust, HTA has carried out an in-depth investigation into the thorny problem of face protection. The questions posed have identified that operators have a variety of problems when wearing disposable respirators.

Most operators do not like them, many operators wear the wrong type of respirator which will not protect them from the type of dust being generated, many operators do not fit or use a respirator correctly and very few operators have undergone Face Fit Testing which is an essential part of the prevention of exposure to dust. All in all this is a most unsatisfactory situation!
HTA is investigating the solutions to the problems outlined and will be reporting further in the coming weeks.
